Speaking of the Alenuihaha Channel...

I was googling "alenuihaha" for fun and found this page. I laughed and called my mom immediately because when we lived on Ohau, Dr. Huffaker was our dentist and my mom always called him "The Swimming Dentist." More on Dr. Huffaker and his swimming prowess/legacy here.

I hadn't thought of him in 30 years.

Royal Hawaiin Air Service

Kevin sent me info about RHAS (see his comments here from a previous post on this site.)

He also sent me this site with a pilot's story of flying on Maui and a couple more good pics from the old Kaanapali airport. Remember being on the beach and watching the planes land right over your head?

I remember flying Royal from Kahului (OGG) to Kamuela (MUE) to visit my dad and stepmom. I was STOKED if I could sit in the other pilot seat. Please send in your memories of flying Royal.

If you want to revisit that feeling, next time you are on OGG, check out Mokulele Airlines for interisland travel. Good price and great views. We flew them from OGG to KOA last December. Leaving Maui at 8 am and flying across the alenuihaha channel was just beautiful.

My Mainland Bumper

When I got a car in college (on the mainland) my sister said "You should get personalized plates and it should be Kulia!" I thought that sounded cool, so I did. And lo these 20 years later, I still have those plates. I also have a few bumper stickers that make me identifiable as "local."

Send me pictures of your cars with your local bumper stickers. I'll post them.

Red Sand Beach

Anyone ever been here? It's magic. I swear it is the place where mermaids live.
